Black Sigatoka is common disease common on plantain in west Africa.
Causer organism, is fungus called Mycosphaella it is susceptible to wind borne fungus.

The symptom, the leaves first show yellow spot.
The leave latter turn Brown and Black and die. The entire leaves become non/function and on several occasions bearing of plants are left with hardly any green leave at maturity. The photosynthesis is reduce and small bunches are produce.
