Plantain is
reliable source of carbohydrate and energy. It serves as food security for
millions of inhabitants of worldwide. Due to adequate amount of fiber present
in plantain reduce constipation problem or ensure smooth bowel.
Fresh
plantain has more Vitamin C or ascorbic acid than Banana. 100g provide 18.4mg
or 31% of daily required level of this vitamin. Consumption of foods rich in
vitamin C help body develop resistance against infectious agents and
scavenge harmful oxygen free radicals.
However, boiling and cooking destroys much of
this vitamin in plantain, therefore it good to eat ripe fresh plantain.
Plantains
carry more vitamin A than banana.
100g fresh ripe plantain contains 1127IU or
37.5% of daily required level of this vitamin. Apart from being a powerful antioxidant,
vitamin A plays a vital role in the visual cycle, maintaining health mucus
